Renovations@ Rose Cottage
We gave the front of the house a facelift in various ways:-
Enclosed the double carport with a remote controlled garage door. This has the double advantage of security and neatness.
Got rid of the small fence across the front of the garden and as there is a row of mature roses, this forms a natural border between garden and verge.
Took out the concrete driveway (only to discover a second concrete driveway underneath from a previous residence!) and also removed the lawn in the garden. We then had both sections laid professionally with recycled bricks, making an oval garden feature at the far end of the front garden.
To complete the "look" we had the concrete roof tiles replaced with zincalume roofing, taking all that weight off the house!
We now have a raised-brick fish pond by the porch and often sit there watching the fish on a pleasant afternoon or evening. In September 2001, we dismantled the arches in the porch (we figure these were probably put up during the 70's) and replaced them with decorative wooden batons, plus a small rose leadlight. It's amazing how much more light now comes into the house!
